Effective Relocation

EMA’s headquarters will be located in Porto’s city centre in a state-of-the-art building, just 20 minutes away from the airport and close to various transportation options within the city and its surroundings. The historic centre of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a continuously regenerated urban area.

Ready to operate in time for the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, the new premises provide very functional space that will support the vision of the Agency, while delivering also an environment that encourages collaboration, transparency and quality control.

The choice of the possible headquarter facilities takes into account EMA’s needs to continue operating in the most efficient way, with all the available areas comprising the necessary logistics and office space for the 900 staff, the high standard meeting rooms for the 500 plus meetings, and the high performing telecommunications and IT network, complying with security standards and fulfilling the EU environmental criteria.

Balancing work and leisure

The city centre offers several green areas, playgrounds, restaurants and shopping centres, while being supplied by a modern and varied hotel offer in the city (seven five-star hotels, 24 four-star hotels and 18 three-star hotels) that is rapidly growing (21 new hotels will open until 2019), offering over 5,000 new beds by the end of 2019. Moreover, the city only has a total area of 41.42 km², which translates into short trips, fast commutes and a boost in the quality of life.

3 projects, 3 buildings, 1 place: Porto.

Porto is the only candidate offering three premises to host EMA’s headquarters: Palácio Atlântico, Palácio dos Correios and a plot located on Avenida Camilo Castelo Branco. EMA will have the ultimate word in choosing the premise, which will be able to start working effectively on the April 1st 2019.
